Course Description

 

The ARANA Spring Meeting will present a 10 CE Credit lecture program designed to provide anesthesia providers with a review and update on the latest developments in the field of anesthesia and related subjects.

 

Course Objectives

 The participant will be able to:

1)      review and identify airway assessment tools supported by evidence based anesthesia research

 2)  review and discuss the ASA difficult airway algorithm

 3)  compare and contrast supraglottic and infra-glottic techniques for securing the difficult

       airway      

 4)  identify the current standards for surgical antibiotic prophylaxis

  5) discuss anesthetic interactions with common antibiotics

6)      compare and contrast common infectious disease issues that may impact anesthesia

      technique selection

 7)  identify the pathophysiology of pain transduction, transmission, and

      sympathetic/inflammatory cascades

.8) compare and contrast the physiology and pharmacology of peripheral and central

     sensitization

 9) discuss acute pain management strategies and the utilization of multi-modality anesthetic

     approaches

10) identify the neurophysiology underpinning the neuroplasticity as relevant to chronic

      pain syndromes

11) compare and contrast common chronic pain syndrome management options

12) compare and contrast interventional versus noninterventional approaches to chronic pain

      syndrome

13) discuss the mechanism of action of commonly used local anesthetics

14) describe the strategies to reduce the incidence of local anesthetic toxicity

15) discuss the use of low dose local anesthesia for the outpatient spinal anesthesia

16) identify anatomic anomalies that contribute to epidural “wet taps”

17) describe the normal physiologic changes that occur with pregnancy

18) discuss strategies for providing analgesia for the first and second stages of labor

19) define wellness parameters for anesthesia providers

20) compare the various psycho-social, physiologic, and workplace stressors impacting

      wellbeing in the anesthesia community

21) identify wellness strategies for improved wellness of anesthesia providers

22) discuss the management of sympathetic blockade during spinal and epidural anesthesia

23) list the factors that contribute to the frequency and severity of post-dural headaches

24) identify the normal role of platelets in coagulation

25) discuss the implications of anti-platelet drugs for the provision of spinal and epidural

Hotel Accommodations and Reservations

The location for the Spring meeting is THE ARLINGTON RESORT AND SPA HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK.  Hotel arrangements can be made directly 501-623-7771 or 1-800-643-1502.  The daily room rates are $99/night plus tax single with King bed: $119 plus tax double with King or two double beds, Mineral water Rooms $165 plus tax, mini suites $175/night plus tax,  The cut off date for this special rate is February 28, 2008.  Spring is the peak season in Hot Springs. rooms will be very limited after the cut off date!  After this date, rooms will be provided subject to availability.  Please remember to identify yourself as a participant of this program to receive the group rate.
